Reading Focus - Reading is Thinking

Today we began learning about the importance of thinking while you read.  We learned that GOOD readers think while they read!!!  We practiced doing this with the book, "Brand-new Pencils, Brand-new Books", by Diane deGroat.  I read the book to the class, and as I was reading that wrote down on sticky notes things they thought about.  After listening to the story, we shared all of our thinking.  We discussed how thinking while we read helps us to understand the story better!  The kiddos returned to their seats and practiced thinking while reading with their own books.  Check out the pics below:
